Top insurance companies in the area will compete over your business, providing you with the lowest possible rate on insurance. IQ-Man fights for freedom, justice, and the American way . . . one low insurance quote at a time.

What inspired you to launch your own website?

I was looking for a Web site to purchase and came across one that provided a similar service. I asked the seller a couple of questions prior to the purchase, and the seller failed to respond. After closer examination of the site, I thought, "I could build this myself. Why should I pay for one?" Now, I am working on promoting / optimizing it.

When did you launch your first website, and what was it?

It was actually an intranet site at Polo Ralph Lauren. The site was for the Human Resources department there, and it was launched in 1999.

How did you decide on a name for your website?

I wanted the name to be SEO friendly for my desired search terms, so I wanted to use "insurance" and "quote." The hero portion was inspired by my son, who is 3-and-a-half, and his love for Superman, Spiderman, and Batman.

What makes your website different from other, similar offerings?

It is a fun, engaging, informative place for people to conduct the relatively mundane task of obtaining an insurance quote. It is something we all do, so there is no reason for it not to be light and enjoyable.

What is your eventual goal? (To sell it, keep it for income, secure a book or other mainstream media deal?)

My goal is to use this site as a learning experience for future sites. I am keeping a log of all of my SEO activities, and hope to apply those that work to new sites. I would like very much to keep the sites and earn a steady income from them.

How does your investment of time and money balance against your success?

I have always believed that you receive exactly what you put into to something in return. Right now, in the early stages, it is a lot of time and effort, with no financial return. The work, however, will pay off eventually.

If you had an unlimited development budget for development, how would you change your site?

I would hire someone to make the writing and images more professional as well as hire someone to update the content regularly.

If your site got really big, really quickly, would you be able to keep up with the demand?

That would be a wonderful problem to have. I am sure that I would figure out a way to do so.

What unexpected costs and headaches have you had to deal with?

Costs have been negligable, but submitting the site to directories and writing classified ads has been quite time consuming.

What has been your biggest challenge?

Learning html.

What method has been most successful for promoting your website?

I am still in the very early stages, but I am a firm believer in organic search engine optimization as the only cost-effective way for smaller players like myself to compete with large corporations.

How has running your website differed from your expectations?

It has been more fun than I thought. It serves as a creative outlet that I simply did not have in my previous line of work.

How long have you run the site already, and how long will you continue to keep it up if you don't enjoy big gains in traffic, income or popularity?

Only one week. But I plan on keeping it for two years to see what - if any - fruits of my early labor develop.

What is your website address?
